SPRINGFIELD – Barbara J. McGrath, 87, of Springfield, formerly of Amboy, died July 10, 2018 at her home. 

Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on July 17 at Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Springfield with Reverend Chris House officiating. A graveside service was held in Amboy at 3 p.m. on July 17 at St. Patrick’s Cemetery with Rev. Timothy Draper officiating. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. on July 16 at the Staab Funeral Home, Springfield with a prayer service at 5 p.m.

Barbara was born Feb. 2, 1931 in Amboy to Charles and Katherine Boesen Clayton. She married Joseph L. McGrath on Dec. 1, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Church in Amboy. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Craig (Carol Wyant) McGrath and Timothy (Rosanne) McGrath, both of Oak Park; one granddaughter, Katherine Rose McGrath of Oak Park; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Patrick McGrath in 1993; five sisters and four brothers.

Barbara was employed as an accountant with Raynor Door Manufacturing Company in Dixon before moving to Springfield. She loved volunteering, antiquing, traveling and reading. She was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception; Council of Catholic Women; Legion of Mary; AARP and Public Citizen.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
