Amboy Lions Club prepare for annual Cliff Walter Easter Egg Hunt

AMBOY — Spring is around the corner and the Amboy Lions are busy preparing for the annual Cliff Walter Easter Egg Hunt to be held Saturday, March 31, at the Amboy City Park.

The festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the opportunity to take pictures with the Easter Bunny and the egg hunt for the various age groups to begin at 2 p.m. In case of inclement weather, it will be held on April 1. This is one of the many community events that the club runs and sponsors throughout the year. Amboy Food and Liquor will donate the eggs again this year.

In other news, Amboy High School seniors are reminded that the application for the Lions Club Scholarship is due April 6. The club will award up to $3,000 in total scholarship money with a maximum of up to $1,000 per recipient. Applications are available from the AHS counselor, Rob Wissinger, and must be returned to him by 3:30 p.m. on April 6. Recipients will be announced at the AHS Honors Night in May.

This year Rose Day is Saturday, March 24.

The cost is again $15 per one dozen long stem roses.  This is one of the main fund raisers of the year for the Lions Club. The profits from the rose sales help to support Lions sponsored community events throughout the year. Anyone interested in purchasing roses, please contact a Lions member.

The Amboy Lions, along with the three Dixon Lions Clubs and the Ashton Lions Club are working together to prepare a breakfast for the Mabley Center residents and their families. Amboy Lion Dave Kemp has spearheaded this event to be tentatively held on Sunday, April 15.

Several members from the Amboy Club will attend the District 1 Convention in Rockford on April 7. Lions Clubs from throughout northern Illinois will be in attendance. This is a good opportunity to showcase what each club has been involved in during the past year and to share ideas.

In the near future, the club will place a Lions Drop Box in front of the Amboy Food and Liquor Store. This bright yellow box will allow the community to dispose of their old eyeglasses and cases, used ink cartridges, and old Christmas lights for recycling.

Amboy Lion Jim Travi is organizing a Community Health Fair in Amboy tentatively scheduled for Oct. 20. This event will offer free retinal eye screenings, vision exams, hearing exams and other related health screenings. More details to come in future Amboy Lions Club articles.
