AMBOY – Fire Chief Jeff Bryant was watching the weather forecast on Saturday morning. The second annual Community Appreciation Event was scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and thunderstorms had passed through overnight and more were likely. The decision was made to set-up the various games inside the Fire Station at noon.
“We were glad just about everything fit. We had one slide that needed to be outside,” said the Chief.
The weather held and the community turned-out to take advantage of the fun provided by the Fire District and community sponsors.
The event provided fun for all ages. There were tours of the Lee County Critical Incident Response Unit and the Sauk Valley Area Fire Safety House, fire truck rides by Firehouse Ministries, inflatable slides, tunnels and jousting ring and a large variety of games for children. There was no charge for the afternoon of fun.
The adult portion of the event was held at the Fire Station at 7 p.m. and featured a photo booth, refreshments and the Midwest Dueling Pianos.
