Amboy CUSD #272 announces teacher and staff member of the year

AMBOY — At the Amboy junior high’s end of year assembly, the school board of Amboy Community Unit School District #272 announced the Teacher and Staff Member of the Year awards. 

Betsy Jones, a fifth-grade teacher at Amboy Jr. High was named Teacher of the Year. Michelle Haub, the school nurse at Amboy Jr. High was named Staff Member of the Year. 

Nominations for these awards are gathered from the community, students, parents and teachers and staff of the school district. This year 150 nominations were submitted for 59 individual teachers and staff members. A small committee is tasked with considering the nominations and selecting the recipients. 

Jones is a 26-year teacher with the school district. In addition to teaching, she coordinates health and wellness activities for the junior high teachers and staff to foster comradery in the building. Haub is a 28-year employee with the school district. Nominators pointed to Haub’s steady demeanor managing the pandemic during the school year in addition to her other tasks as a school nurse as reason for being deserving of this award. 

Plaques with the individuals’ names will hang for the 2022-23 school year in the jr. high. 

This is the third year for this recognition program.
