AMBOY — Amboy Central Elementary School’s PTC (Parent Teacher Club) is leading the effort to update the school’s playground before the start of the next school year (August 2022).

Initial conversations involved replacing the current mulch and border to the playground. But successful fundraising efforts and partnerships with the school district and a private donor expanded the project to include new playground equipment and a fitness obstacle course. Additional playground ‘accessories’ like benches, other equipment and garbage cans will be considered as funds become available.

The bid for new playground equipment from Play Illinois, LLC company was approved by the Amboy CUSD #272 School Board at their May 24 meeting. The cost is $79,557.00. A generous donation assisted the PTC in reaching their goal to purchase the new equipment. The school district will cover the cost of mulch and border for the playground area.

The PTC holds several fundraisers throughout the year including a pancake breakfast, book fair, freezer meal order, and back to school toolbox kits. Proceeds from these fundraisers support field trips, good behavior incentive activities, material and resource requests from teachers and other needs for the elementary school. Additionally, other Central School parents have raised funds for the playground project through t-shirt sales through Kaleel’s Clothing and Printing, and a Penny Wars, which raised $10,000.

The school district and PTC recognize that children and families utilize the playground after school hours, during baseball season and throughout the year. This project will benefit the entire community.
