A-L girls capture invitational crown

Amboy-LaMoille cross country runners competed in the Oregon 7-Person Meet on Sept. 6.

In the girls’ race, Sterling took the top spot with 33 points. A-L did not qualify for team scoring as it did not have seven runners.

Margaret Vaessen paced the Lady Clippers with a sixth-place finish in a time of 21:37. Not far behind was teammate Cassidy Corcoran in ninth place with a clocking of 21:46. Also competing were Kaitlyn Ortgiesen (13th, 22:10), Kelynn Boyle (18th, 22:38), Macy Mershon (32nd, 24:20) and Ally Gascoigne (43rd, 26:38).

In the boys’ competition, A-L’s Tom Stamberger came in fifth with a time of 17:03, while Tom Molln finished 25th in 20:13.

Calvin Deering ran in the open race and was 21st in 24:53.

The Lady Clippers came away with the team title in the Gary Coates Invitational at Princeton on Sept. 9. A-L scored 66 points in the event that featured 17 schools. The rest of the top five were Morris (74), Sandwich (89), LaSalle-Peru (90) and Bureau Valley (113).

Vaessen was the top finishers for the Lady Clippers, taking sixth place in a time of 20:35. Next in for A-L was Ortgiesen in ninth place at 20:55, while Corcoran took 10th in 21:02. Completing the A-L team were Boyle (19th, 21:40), Ashley Althaus (23rd, 21:59), Mershon (51st, 24:54) and Gascoigne (63rd, 25:56).

For the varsity boys, Stamberger took second place overall with a time of 16:29 and Molln was 37th in 19:38.

Deering (49th, 13:40) competed in the freshman-sophomore race.
